19 Save Cech into action for the first time, parrying Valencia's well-struck shot after Palacios supplies.
26 Denied Anelka's looping header is clawed over by Kirkland, at full stretch and falling backwards after Malouda chips the ball in. It's a great save and Chelsea's first effort on target.
34 Clearance Skoko hacks off the line and over after his own team-mate diverts a Belletti corner goalwards, under pressure from Kalou.
39 Break Chelsea have two onto three on the counter but Essien's ball doesn't have the legs to reach Anelka and Scharner intercepts.

Comment Cech, with a special chin strap to protect his stitches, is able to play but Drogba and Carvalho are not involved, the former due to knee trouble. Lampard, originally named, withdraws in the final hour, so Essien returns to midfield from right-back and Belletti comes in. The first half is low on quality and chances as Wigan defend well from set-pieces. Joe Cole's half-time introduction seems to increase the tempo and the Blues begin to play. However the end-of-game problem resurfaces as the away side are allowed a way back while Kirkland in the Wigan goal is in inspired form. 80 unbeaten at home in the league but far more crucially, Man United are five ahead with four to play.
