Avram Grant was pleased with the three points picked up against Everton last night, and was satisfied with how the team stood firm in the final minutes of the game.

Having taken a first-half lead through Michael Essien, we were able to see the game out against an opposition lacking some of their attacking flair, due to the absence of Tim Cahill, Mikel Arteta and Leon Osman.

Grant though was concentrating on Chelsea, ourselves without key players.

'It was a good result, coming to Goodison Park. We needed the points and played good football.

'We controlled the game well, had chances to score the goal, but our last pass was sometimes a little bit sloppy.'

After the slip-up against Wigan on Monday, where we conceded an injury time equaliser, Grant was satisfied to come away with a well-earned win.

'What happened on Monday night is part of what happened to the team, we changed the style of the team and want attacking football. We continued to attack and deserved three of four-nil.

'I will not close the game when we play such good football, but when you come to the last moments it doesn't matter if you win 2-0, it is about the points.'

Grant opted to bring on Claude Makelele for the closing stages, in place of the hard-working Shaun Wright-Phillips. He had kind words for the former Manchester City man, saying: 'I didn't see Shaun's statistics, but I think he ran like two players in the game.'

Grant was without Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack for the game, but is hopeful of seeing some involvement in our Champions League tie with Liverpool.

'I am not sure they will play Tuesday, they didn't train,' he said. 'Drogba is doing his best to be well, he has a problem and I hope he will be okay, if not for the first game for the second game.'

With four points taken from two games in three days, Grant put an end to the fiasco.

'Of course when you win it is better, but now I can say the decision was not the right decision, when you come to the last stage of the season everybody needs to be equal,' he argued.

'We played two games in three days, but it's finished.'

One thing that isn't finished after last night is the title race, with the gap now closed to two points ahead of Manchester United's trip to Blackburn on Saturday.
