TERRY: EVERYONE PLAYS THEIR PART
John Terry, the captain who led Chelsea to victory over Manchester United in the final game of last season, has been casting his mind forward to the climax of the current campaign.
Whereas last May it was Wembley and the FA Cup final that closed another long and historic Chelsea season, Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium and the Champions League will play host to England's top two as both aim for a silverware double.
'I think everybody is looking forward to an all-English final, certainly us,' Terry said as he quickly put the semi-final celebrations behind him.
'Man United have been very good in the league but we managed to beat them at home. All-in-all, they are playing very well but I think we are at the top of our game, so three weeks' time will be a very tough game.
'From a Chelsea point of view, this is the first time in the club's history we've been to this final which is very different from Man United. As I said in my programme notes, we are on the start of something very good and over the last four or five years we have won trophies and I want to keep doing that.
'I don't care who we are playing. Whether it is Man United or not, you have to beat a very good side at the latter stages of any competition.'
The skipper's statement could apply equally to Chelsea who will be playing our 10th cup final in 11 years. For Terry, the continuation of this achievement has been all about team work, both on and off the pitch.
'The manager plays a massive part along with the players, Steve Clarke, Henk ten Cate, the fans, the football club. I think everyone at this club has got a big part to play. Credit to ourselves and the way we have dealt with things this year because at times it has not been easy.
'The manager deserves respect. This is the first time this has ever been done in the club's history by any manager.
'To get to where we are and still question a manager's role in the club is unbelievable but as I said before, it is not just the manager, it is the players, coaches, everybody has a big role to play.
'We have such a big squad of players and I am very proud of them - Lamps and the character he has shown, Didier the way he has played, Michael Ballack, Ricardo Carvalho, Joe Cole - the players have been phenomenal.'
Drogba, a two-goal hero over Liverpool is another who has speaking about team values.
'I would have been very happy as well if somebody else had scored those goals. It is all about the teamwork. We have been working and playing to reach the Champions League final for a few years now so it is fantastic.
'In September we believed we could reach the final. There were some events difficult for the club but the most important thing is to stand up and keep working like we did. The objective didn't change.
'I hope I will be in good form and in good shape. The team are improving physically and to win games like the semi-final gives you a lot of power and confidence.
'If you lose the semi-final you are upset for two, three, four days, but to lose the final will stay with you for years so now we are there, we have to win it.'
