After praising his players and congratulating Manchester United, Avram Grant would not rule John Terry out of the Champions League Final in Moscow next Wednesday.

Terry was carried off the Stamford Bridge pitch early in the first half after a mid-air collision with Petr Cech, his own goalkeeper.

Grant, having witnessed his side push United to the final day of the season before surrendering the Premier League title to Sir Alex Ferguson's side, spoke of his captain's injury.

'He didn't break his elbow, but we need to wait and see. We will know more in a few days,' he began.

'I am waiting and don't want to see the day John Jerry is not confident, like he was after the injury against Arsenal. He is strong and we have 10 days until the Final, so we don't need to take the decision now.

'We need to see that he is fit to play, with his character I am sure there are not any problems. It is always the decision of everyone, first the medical department, but don't rush, we have time.'

Rather than spend too much time disappointed at not winning the title, Grant preferred to praise his players for their efforts over the last nine months.

'We cannot say we are disappointed because we were never in first place to lose it, so we need to be very proud of what we did this year.

If you see what happened to us this year, we didn't start the league well, then all the big players got injured, then the African Cup, then played with sometimes the second choice injured, and I am very proud of what we did in January, and we played very good football and won big games. I can be proud, and it is not easy to be after teams all the time.'

He also had praise for today's goal scorer, Andriy Shevchenko, who he admitted has had something of a mixed campaign.

'For Shevchenko it was a strange season, it started not so good, and the last weeks back to training he was better. Compared to the minutes he played this year, he had many goals. I am happy from this because maybe we'll need him in Moscow,' the manager said.

On the topic of Moscow, Grant had much to say, but stressed that despite having already made history by getting there, we need to go one step further and bring the European Cup back to SW6.

'When you come to the final of the Champions League, I say that our target was the final, but we want very much to win.

'We wanted to win the league also but it was never in our hands, what was in our hands we did what we needed to do. Even today it was 1-0 but when we heard it was 2-0 [in Wigan] the last 10 minutes was not important.'

Grant too had praise for the Chelsea fans, some of whom he spoke with as he walked the perimeter of the pitch after the final whistle.

'It was not easy this season, there were many good things but we had difficult times. To see the fans respect it makes me proud of the fans, not just the players,' he smiled.

Finally, there was a message of congratulations for Ferguson, though Grant later admitted that it expires tomorrow, when both ourselves and United begin to focus on Moscow.

He said: 'I want to congratulate Man United, they had a great season and are good champions. I sent a message to Alex Ferguson congratulating him. He is a great manager and a great person - I like him personally.'
