FRANK: ENJOY THE MOMENT
Frank Lampard, on the eve of the biggest game of his career, is refusing to let matters outside those taking place on the grass of the Luzhniki Stadium, cloud his view of the task in hand.
That means ignoring newspaper stories on Tuesday morning linking the Chelsea vice-captain with a move to Serie A champions Inter Milan, reports dismissed out of hand by Lampard's own agent.
Asked in Russia to match Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's bet that Cristiano Ronaldo would remain at Old Trafford, with one on his own future, Lampard responded:
'I don't really bet too much so I wouldn't want to talk about betting. I am very happy at Chelsea, it's been the best years of my career. I've said it time and time again.
'It will be sorted out in the summer hopefully. We've spoken with Chelsea in the season and myself and the club have both said that we won't speak about my contract until the summer.
'Now obviously is not the time to have your mind on all that; my mind is completely on the game tomorrow. After that we can deal with it.'
From Chelsea Football Club's point of view, there has been no contact and no offers from Inter and the club is not interested in either contact or offers. Lampard's representatives have said the same.
As one of the players who experienced the three Champions League semi-final defeats, our England midfield needs no-one to tell him to appreciate this moment in Moscow, especially after the personal story that surrounded the victory over Liverpool on the way here.
'That was a big moment for me but I think tomorrow can be the defining moment for all the players,' he suggests.
'Some players have already won Champions Leagues, a lot of us haven't and I want to be part of a winning team tomorrow. My defining moment will be if I can be amongst team-mates, the squad, the whole of the staff lifting the Cup. That will top anything I did in the semi-final.
'We've achieved a lot at Chelsea in the past four or five years and been very close to this Final. Every year we missed out made us more hungry.
'Now we're here we're savouring the build up and know the losing finalists are forgotten in history, so we're looking to go the full step and finish as the Champions League winner.
'Generally, on the way to the Final, a lot of us would say we would rather stay away from an English side, but I think the way it has turned out with the quality Manchester United have and the quality we have, what a huge bonus it is for English football to have two teams playing in a final of this magnitude.
'We should enjoy the moment because sometimes in England we give ourselves quite a lot of criticism about our football with the national team. It's a big plus for the Premier League and we are all happy to be a part of that.'
Speaking of finals, Lampard revealed the last game of football he attended was at Wembley on Saturday to see Uncle Harry's side win the FA Cup.
'It was a great day for the family and Harry deserved that. I was supporting him and I'm sure he and all the Redknapp family will be supporting me tomorrow night and we can make it a family double.'
A replica of the new home shirt Frank Lampard will be wearing in Moscow can be ordered online already.
Bookmakers Paddy Power make Lamps a 9/1 bet to score the first goal.
