Environmental Policy
As a leader on and off the pitch Chelsea Football Club is aware of our impact within our community. As part of this commitment we believe that football clubs have a vital role to play in minimising this impact by the club, staff and fans on their environment.
It is the policy of Chelsea to lessen this environmental impact and, as a club and a business, to continually develop, review and improve our environmental objectives.
We are proud to be the only football club to sign up to the Mayor of London's Green 500 campaign and are committed to reducing our carbon emissions by at least 10% during the next two years.
To reach this goal, we shall continue to improve efficiency in the use of all resources and adopt greener technologies where appropriate.
We are committed to treating all relevant legal and environmental legislation and guideline as a minimum requirement and will seek to exceed them wherever possible.
We also encourage and hope all suppliers, partners and stakeholders to share our aims, particularly our staff and fans.
Our Commitments
All Chelsea employees will be encouraged through incentives and regular communications to turn off computers, televisions and not to print documents or emails unless necessary. Chelsea staff will be encouraged to use public transport or walk/cycle to work where practical and to adopt similar environmental commitments at home.
We believe that as a club we can help inspire and educate. We will also be introducing a commitment scheme for fans to lessen their environmental impact. Fans will be encouraged to switch off their televisions use low emission light bulbs and to turn down the thermostats on their central heating systems and to wash clothes at lower temperatures.
Chelsea will also encourage fans on their way to games to use public transportor other more environmentally friendly forms of transport. For certain away games the club will continue to provide free coach and train travel to encourage less car usage.
To further improve environmental performance at our premises, all lighting will be energy saving where practical. We will also ensure that lighting, waste and office supplies are recycled where practical.
All Materials used are to be environmentally sustainable wherever feasible, including the paper used in offices and for marketing and promotional materials. Furthermore, carrier bags at the Chelsea Megastore will be made from bio degradable material at the earliest opportunity.
Our Commitments to Date
We have installed a building management system to control lighting, heating and air conditioning at both Stamford Bridge and Cobham.
Buildings at Stamford Bridge and Cobham are all installed with motion sensors to automatically turn lights off.
Air handling units are equipped with heat recovery coils at both Cobham and Stamford Bridge, to reclaim heat from extracted air which is used to heat air supply when needed. Wasted heat is also recycled through the air conditioning systems.

To offset our carbon emissions we have planted over 3500 trees and shrubs at the Cobham training ground.
Travel
We encourage all staff to use public transport wherever practical. We have installed shower facilities at Stamford Bridge for members of staff choosing to walk run or cycle to work and created a bicycle park on site at Stamford Bridge.
We also have a loans system to encourage staff to buy bicycles for their commute. We are also taking measures to reduce car parking space at Stamford Bridge to reduce private car usage.

Recycling
We send all waste from Stamford Bridge away for recycling (85% of waste is recycled) at the White City Depot - one of Europe's most advanced recycling centres.
The Cobham training ground operates a waste recycling programme in conjunction with the Borough of Elmbridge, managed by SITA waste management. We have also installed a FEL unit for paper and cardboard.
Water
To reduce our water usage a water management system has been introduced for toilets ranging from motion detectors to foaming units.
At the Cobham training ground, ground water and hard area run off is collected and held in a reservoir for use by the pitch irrigation system.
Cobham Training Ground
In addition to the measures already described Cobham has a number of energy saving systems designed to lessen the environmental impact of the building
The building was designed to meet an Excellent Bream rating (Building Research Establishment Assessment Method).
To lessen the environmental impact and maintain a constant temperature Cobham has been installed with a turf roof and brass cladding.
We have installed a system to monitor direct sunlight and to automatically close the curtains maintaining temperature.
As 1/3 of the building is underground we also have a moat to reflect light into the basement to reduce energy usage.
Kit washing is now done on site at Cobham and the temperature of the water is lowered and energy saving measures have been adopted to reduce the environmental impact of this process.
We will also be taking measures to reduce the amounts of water used.
Timing devices have also been installed to drinks fridges to limit the amount of energy they use.
Partners
As a club encourage and hope our partners to share our commitment to the environment.
