PRE-MATCH BRIEFING: EVERTON V CHELSEA

TACTICAL BRIEF
There is more unpredictability than usual despite our recent encounter - a comfortable 3-1 Chelsea win at the Bridge - because of the various team selection issues surrounding midweek League Cup games. Both managers have rested some of their usual starters in this competition.

For Chelsea, Fernando Torres is available again after suspension, although Andre Villas-Boas will be mindful that fellow centre-forward Didier Drogba is ruled out against Arsenal at home and Blackburn away, as well as this match.

The Chelsea boss has already suggested Chelsea will try to use 'the maximum of young players' again at Goodison Park.

The Blues' win in the previous round over Fulham began with him handing first starts to Ryan Bertrand, Oriol Romeu and Romelu Lukaku (pictured below), and all vindicated his faith in them.

Josh McEachran also featured, but shootout hero Ross Turnbull only played after Petr Cech was declared unfit to continue at half-time. Turnbull himself was nursing an injury. Ramires returns to training today and is not fit to play this evening. José Bosingwa (straight red) and Ashley Cole (fifth yellow) are both unavailable for this one match for disciplinary reasons.

David Moyes had key men goalie Tim Howard, centre-back Sylvain Distin and forward Tim Cahill on the bench when West Brom visited Goodison in the last round. Wide midfielder Royston Drenthe, on loan from Real Madrid, and Argentinean attacker Denis Stracqualursi, 24, were in the starting line-up for the first time.

The much-discussed talents of young Toffee Ross Barkley may be on show. The attacking midfielder and others in the Everton and Chelsea Reserves ranks played out an entertaining 3-3 draw in late September at Cobham.
