Andre Schurrle was pleased to come through his first 45 minutes in a Chelsea shirt in Bangkok on Wednesday, and believes bright things are to come.
The 22-year-old, a summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen, started Jose Mourinho's first game back as manager as we defeated the Singha All-Stars, a Thai league representative XI, 1-0 thanks to a Romelu Lukaku penalty.
During that time he linked up well down the left wing with Ashley Cole, also cutting inside to combine well with Kevin De Bruyne and showing flashes of both his pace and impressive touch.
'It was great, I feel really good and now the first one is done in a Chelsea shirt, I can kick on,' the German said afterwards. 'It was only 45 minutes but at this time in pre-season it's very good to get that time, to play in the game and get the movements against opponents, not your team-mates in training.
'I think it was okay for the first time, it can be better but it's only after one week of pre-season. The fitness is the most important thing. You have to get fit and get your movement right. I am in a good way, the team is in a good way and it feels good to win, not to lose.'
The squad moves on to Kuala Lumpur to see our Malaysian fans on Thursday, and Schurrle reports he is already feeling very much a part of things at Chelsea.
'We have a good spirit and a good feeling in the team,' he said. 'I feel I am settling in very well, my team-mates have helped me a lot, they have talked to me a lot and I am getting to know them. I like it very much and it's going to be great for me this season.'
There is still a month until the Barclays Premier League season gets underway, and Schurrle will be hoping for many more minutes on the pitch before then. The next opportunity will be on Sunday at the Shah Alam Stadium, with the game live on Chelsea TV.
