Chelsea Football Club is delighted to be returning to Kuala Lumpur this summer as part of our Here to Play, Here to Stay tour.
The team will play a Malaysia XI at the Shah Alam Stadium on Sunday, July 21, four days after our first game of the tour in Bangkok, Thailand, and four days before we make our first ever Indonesian appearance in Jakarta.
It will be our third visit to the Malay capital in six years, following recent victories in 2008 and 2011, while we also lifted the FA Premier League Asia Cup there back in 2003.
Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay said: 'It is fantastic news that we are returning to Kuala Lumpur.
'We look forward to the match against what promises to be a strong and improving opposition. Two years ago in Malaysia we narrowly won in front of 85,000 supporters at the Bukit Jalil Stadium, and we look forward to the same stunning atmosphere again at the 65,000 Shah Alam.
'Each time we travel to Asia I am amazed at the reception, and I am sure this summer will be no different.'
Julian Kam, chief executive of ProEvents Group, who will help organise the trip, added: 'ProEvents takes great pride in becoming the official partner of the Chelsea Asia Tour again. Chelsea has strong support in Asia and in particularly Malaysia where they attracted 85,000 fans for their match in 2011. We look forward to another successful tour with them in the summer.'
This summer's trip will also provide a legacy in the region through our Here to Stay, Here to Play campaign.
Kuala Lumpur has been home to a Chelsea FC Soccer School, incorporating a Blue Pitch, since 2011, providing a hub for our staff to bring expert grassroots coaching to Malaysian youngsters and to train local coaches to deliver unique Chelsea training programmes, and was also utilised during the youth team's mini-tour of Asia last summer.
A new facility is scheduled to open in Indonesia this year, adding it to our existing Soccer School operations in Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Korea, the Philippines and Singapore.
Our official club website receives more than 180,000 visits each month from Malaysia, with almost one million Facebook users from the country also following the official Chelsea page.
This summer will see us return to the city that boasts the impressive Petronas Towers and the 421-metre KL Tower, at the venue where we first played four years ago. Goals that day from Nicolas Anelka and Ashley Cole saw Luiz Felipe Scolari's side run out 2-0 winners.
