About the Under-19s

Chelsea's Under-19 side is part of the development process for young players at the club.

They compete in the UEFA Youth League, UEFA's European competition for Under-19 teams, which mirrors the Champions League draw at the group stage with fixtures played home and away the same week as the senior fixtures.

Group winners advance directly to the last-16 knockout round, while runners-up face an away play-off round tie against those progressing through the domestic champions path. The latter runs parallel to the group stage and sees the youth champions of the 32 best-ranked UEFA associations compete in two knockout rounds.

From the last-16 onwards, ties are one-legged before the semi-finals and final are played over one weekend on neutral territory in Nyon, Switzerland.

There is a difference in the age qualification regulation from domestic competition with 1 January the cut-off date rather than 1 September. For the 2017/18 campaign, players are eligible to play in the competition if they were born on or after 1 January 1999. Three 'over-age' players born on or after 1 January 1998 can also be selected.

There is often an overlap in players between the Chelsea development squad, Under-19 and Under-18 squads.
