Our Under 21s recorded a comfortable 3-0 win at St Albans City last weekend with the beginning of the new season now just over a week away.

First-half strikes from Patrick Bamford and Adam Coombes put us firmly in the ascendancy, and when midfielder John Swift scored with a long-range effort after the break the result never looked in doubt.

Goalkeeper Sam Walker had earlier saved a penalty from Micah Hyde with the score at 2-0.

Manager Dermot Drummy was pleased with the overall performance, and believes, with only two more warm-up games to play, it's been a successful pre-season campaign.

'All of the players got a nice run-out,' he tells the official Chelsea website. ' We were able to introduce both [Lamisha] Musonda and [Thorgan] Hazard into the team who both performed well.

'Our fitness levels are looking good, the team are in good spirits and I'm really pleased with how pre-season has gone.

'We go to Kingstonian on Saturday and then Dundalk on Tuesday, who have already sold 3,000 tickets, and then we'll select a side for the opening game against Manchester City.'

Alex Davey and Islam Feruz, meanwhile, have been called up to the Scotland Under 19 squad for their game against Norway later this month, while both Hazard and Musonda have been called up to the Belgium Under 21s ahead of their game against Scotland.

Our Under 21s are next in action when we take on Kingstonian at Kingsmeadow Stadium on Saturday 11 August, kick-off 3pm.
