Our Under-21s brought the curtain down on their pre-season campaign with a win, beating Hendon FC 2-0 at Earlsmead.

A strong Chelsea side, which featured both Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah, as well as former Blues Jody Morris and Jon Harley, scored a goal either side of the break to ensure we head into Friday's opening game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur in good shape.

McEachran opened the scoring right on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot before Ben Pattie, a trialist, doubled our advantage midway through the second half.

Manager Dermot Drummy was delighted with the display.

'It was a good result and a decent performance,' he said. 'Josh McEachran scored the first from the penalty spot after winning it himself following a good solo run. Then the second goal was scored by Ben Pattie, who came on for Islam Feruz.

'Jody Morris and Jon Harley both played, and they produced super performances for the young boys to observe, their attitude and football intelligence was absolutely fantastic.

'I was really pleased, these games are always tough, but the motivation and concentration from the boys was great. McEachran played 85 minutes, he came off with a little knock, and Chalobah played the full 90 minutes. They've been playing at a higher level but their attitudes were great, I was very happy with all of the boys.

He went on to praise the players for the manner in which they've performed - on and off the pitch - over the course of pre-season.

'They've been great, when you do a commercial tour the training regime is a little different, it was all new to the boys,' he said.

'They've done a lot of travelling but they've been spot-on in training and during the matches.'

Chelsea play Tottenham Hotspur at Aldershot Town on Friday 9 August, kick-off 7.05pm. The game is free for all supporters.

The match can also be seen live and exclusive on Chelsea TV.
