What is the Player Support Service?
It is a holistic support service for all former players of the Club.
Our team has extensive background and experience in football and providing tailored support to those in need. The team have strong links with external support services and will ensure that they advocate on your behalf to make sure you receive the right support based on your needs and circumstances. The team aims to empower players and support them through challenging times.

What kind of support can I get?
The service will complete a thorough initial assessment of your needs. The assessment will take into consideration your personal circumstances as this will enable us to tailor our response to you.
Examples of some of the areas where we can provide support following a needs based assessment are:
• Obtaining mental health support, including specialist therapeutic support
• Obtaining education/training advice
• Obtaining career development advice
• Advocacy with external agencies such as the PFA or Housing department
• Obtaining advice on managing debt

Will there be an opportunity to meet other former players?
At Chelsea Football Club, we view ourselves as one family. Our Foundation and Past Players Trust regularly provide opportunities for former players to engage with the club through alumni events, attendance in the Foundation box at matches and annual dinner.
Am I able to change my mind during this process?
Yes, you can withdraw from taking part at any time during the assessment process or thereafter. We will explain what will happen to any data you have already shared.
Will Chelsea provide the support themselves?
The team have a lot of experience in commissioning support services and we have good working relationships with external service providers. We can signpost you to the right support service and advocate on your behalf.
Will it cost me anything?
A lot depends on your current circumstances and what type of support you need. Our services are free of charge. If we signpost you to an external service, we will try to ensure that you bare no costs, but each case is dealt with on a case by case basis and dependant on your circumstances.
In respect of medical services, in certain circumstances the Past Players Trust (part of the Chelsea Foundation) will assist in the payment for certain surgeries such as knee replacement, hip replacement, etc. Chelsea will generally share these costs with the PFA and other clubs where the player has played. Such assistance is based on need.
How is my personal information used?
In addition, information gathered from you by our Player Support Service will only be used for the purposes of assessing your needs and providing you with access to appropriate support.
We rely on the following legal bases, under data protection law, to process your Personal Information:
• Because we have obtained your consent (and in the case of special category personal data, your explicit consent), you are free to withdraw your consent at any time.
• Because it is in our legitimate interests in operating the Player Support Service.
Information about you may be shared with service providers in order to enable you to access appropriate support. This information will be shared on a need to know basis and you will be informed about how your information will be shared
We are here to listen, and we will keep your information private. However, there may be times when we may need to share information in the interests of safety and welfare or because we have a legal or regulatory obligation. Wherever possible, we will speak to you about the information we share and make decisions with you.
We may from time to time publish aggregated and anonymised statistical information relating to the support provide by the Player Support Service. In doing so, we will not reveal any personal information or data which allows any individual to be identified.
I know former players that would benefit from this service, can I refer them?
For us to provide a bespoke service to our players, we do need to discuss with them what the challenges are. Therefore, we would recommend that you seek their permission before contacting us.
