For the fifth year running, teams of Chelsea Pitch Owners took to the pitch at Stamford Bridge for the Five a Side Tournament.
This year the competition was organised in two leagues with the winners and runners-up progressing to the semi-finals. Winners of the mini leagues South Devon Blues and JL Sports contested the final with the boys from the West Country winning 2-1.
Nick Hayman, captain of the winners said: ‘We all had an amazing time playing in this well organised tournament at the home of football, following in the footsteps of our heroes and to be able to take the trophy back to Devon was perfect ending to a great evening.’
Blieu Huskinson, captain of one of the other teams, Chelsea Shire, commented: ‘Just a quick thank you for last night’s brilliant tournament, great cause, everyone involved is grateful for the opportunity!’
Ginette Gower, CPO Director, who organised the tournament said: ‘The players all appreciated the unique experience of playing on the pitch they own and emulating the professionals. A bonus this year for the players was the privilege of using the home and away team dressing rooms.’
All Chelsea fans can enter the tournament as a team, but non-Pitch Owners will be asked to purchase a share. The date for the 2020 event will be announced in November with a pre-January early bird offer available.
