The International Department was established to continue the work of the Chelsea Foundation abroad and to use football as a force for good.
Since the department’s inception 45 countries have been visited, workshops and training courses delivered to 2,500 coaches and more than 20,000 participants have been engaged. Permanent Chelsea FC programmes are located in Thailand and Singapore as well as soccer school programmes in Hong Kong, Japan and Indonesia.
FC Harlem is our first community development club partnership in the US, based in Harlem New York. The initiative is offering opportunities for young people with low economic means to access soccer in a safe environment.
Supported by Chelsea coaches on the ground the Harlem programme is now extending into local schools and organisations to offer coaching programmes in the local community.
We also have associations with two US Community Clubs in Atlanta and Hawaii who receive annual coaching visits, coach education workshops and unique opportunities to visit the UK.
Working closely with the Football Club, our strategy is to create a range of programmes in both Asia and the US and other targeted markets. These programmes would see Chelsea coaching staff based permanently at each location to maintain high standards and add authenticity to the programmes. Summer programmes are also underway at the Sani, Forte Village and La Manga resorts.
We also have a range of activities to support club sponsors as well as club tours and all visits and programmes are developed to deliver a wide-range of sporting and community legacy programmes.
