Peter Osgood Award

The 2018 Peter Osgood Award was presented to Ellie Crabb by the Chelsea legend’s widow Lynn in May.

The award was set up in 2016 to honour a coach, participant or volunteer on the Chelsea Foundation’s social inclusion programmes who has shown the commitment, dedication and spirit that the legendary Blues striker was famous for.

This year's award went to Chelsea Foundation coach Ellie, who has worked tirelessly for the Foundation while studying at St Mary’s University, assisting with practical workshops at the University while also leading on aspects of those workshops.

While doing this she has also worked on or at the Foundation’s Football Development Centres, soccer schools, after school clubs and is often called upon last minute to help mentor others and assist with other work.

Ellie, who was joined at Stamford Bridge by parents Kath and Rodney plus brother Sam, said: ‘I have been involved with the Foundation for a while, first as a student and now as a member of staff and I have loved every minute.

‘I always want to do more and have been able to work on the Football Development Centres with the girls and with the disability players which have been two of my proudest moments.

‘The people you work with at the Foundation are what make it so special. Every coach or member of staff is always looking to have the biggest impact possible and help as many children or adults as possible and to give everyone a great experience with Chelsea.

‘It was a big surprise to win this award, just to be nominated was an honour, so to win is a really proud moment for me and my family.’

The award was created in 2016, on behalf of the Peter Osgood Trust, which closed a year earlier after raising more than £100,000 to support various charities. The remaining funds were donated to the Chelsea Foundation.

Foundation disability inclusion senior officer Andy Rose, who nominated Ellie, said: ‘Ellie has dedicated her time to developing her skills as well as supporting myself and the Surrey team by ensuring the standards of our pan-disability sessions are improved.

‘Ellie has done this for quite some time now and not once have I heard turn down work or complain.

‘She is a credit to the Foundation and a joy to work with.’
