Five Lesser-Known Classic Chelsea Matches

To help you through another week without football we have picked out five of the club’s lesser-known memorable matches from recent history, all of which you can revisit on YouTube!

Chelsea 5-4 Manchester United, League Cup, 2012
The rivalry between The Reds from Manchester and The Blues from London has always been fierce, and it wasn’t anything different when the two sides met in the League Cup in 2012. Competing for a place in the quarter-finals, both sides went at it from the first minute, with Eden Hazard’s late penalty taking the game to extra time at 3-3. That set the stage for both Ramires and Daniel Sturridge to score and send us through to the quarter-finals!

Chelsea 6-0 Arsenal, Premier League, 2014

It was supposed to be an occasion to celebrate for Arsene Wenger, but his 1000th game in charge of Arsenal soon descended into a living nightmare. Six goals from five different scorers saw us end the day as convincing winners over the Gunners at Stamford Bridge. We’ll never get bored of watching this one!

Chelsea 2-0 PSG, UEFA Champions League, 2014
Chelsea’s win against PSG in 2014 was one of many examples of Senegalese striker, Demba Ba, showing his knack for scoring big goals in big games. With a Champions League semi-final place at stake, Ba’s late goal and Petr Cech’s heroics overturned a 3-1 deficit from the first leg and sealed a memorable win for the Blues on aggregate. Cue the sideline celebrations from Jose Mourinho! A classic memory for many Indian Blues!

Chelsea 5-1 Tottenham, FA Cup classic, 2012
A ball forward from Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba chests it, turns and then smashes past his former teammate, Carlo Cudicini. A goal which was one of his all-time greats and which opened the floodgates on that day at Wembley, as Chelsea ran riot against Tottenham to seal their place in FA Cup final in 2012. And let’s not forget that Frank Lampard wonder strike from 30 yards as well!

Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle, Premier League, 2012
Newcastle United were always a tricky team to beat for Chelsea FC, but a Fernando Torres masterclass paved the way for an easy win against The Magpies in 2012. The way the Spaniard troubled the Newcastle United defence throughout the match was a dream to watch for every Blue. The match also saw the first goal of many to come for Eden Hazard in Chelsea colors.
