Chelsea FC Ultimate XI - Centre Forwards

We conclude our Ultimate XI feature this week by looking at a quartet of strikers who have produced plenty of goals for Chelsea FC fans to enjoy over the past two decades.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Chelsea FC debut: Manchester United, Community Shield, 13.08.00

Appearances: 156+21

Goals: 87

Honours: Premier League Golden Boot 2001

Hasselbaink may not have won a major trophy in his four seasons at Chelsea FC but he gave us many memories to savour by scoring plenty of goals which helped us reach the 2002 FA Cup final and finish in the top-four in the league twice. He memorably netted a perfect hat-trick with both feet and his head against Tottenham in 2002 and became the only player in the club’s history to score three times after coming on as a substitute against Wolves in 2004.

Didier Drogba

Chelsea FC debut: Manchester United (h), Premier League, 15.08.04

Appearances: 288+93

Goals: 164

Honours: Premier League 2005, 2006, 2010, 2015, FA Cup 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, League Cup 2005, 2007, 2015, Champions League 2012, Chelsea Player of the Year 2010, Premier League Golden Boot 2007, 2010

Drogba was a key man in much of Chelsea’s success during his first spell with the club from 2004 to 2012 as he became the first player to score in four FA Cup finals and netted our crucial equaliser and winning penalty against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final. It would have been a fitting way for the Ivorian to sign off from the club but after two seasons away, he returned for an encore in 2014/15 and helped us win another Premier League title as well as the League Cup.

Diego Costa

Chelsea FC debut: Burnley (a), Premier League, 18.08.14

Appearances: 109+11

Goals: 59

Honours: Premier League 2015, 2017, League Cup 2015

A fiery and uncompromising centre-forward, Diego Costa gave opposition defenders a torrid time during his three full seasons at Stamford Bridge as the burly Brazilian helped drive us towards two Premier League titles and a League Cup. While his physical style of play drew controversy at times, he still averaged nearly a goal every two games for the Blues with many of those strikes proving crucial in our 2016/17 league title triumph.

Tammy Abraham

Chelsea FC debut: Liverpool (a), Premier League, 11.05.16

Appearances: 29+8

Goals: 15

Despite scoring regularly for Chelsea at youth level and in loan spells at Championship sides Bristol City and Aston Villa, there were still question marks about Abraham’s ability to make it as a Premier League striker when he started this season. However, our current No.9 has proven he can also cut it for the Blues at senior level with 15 goals so far including a treble at Wolves last September which made him the youngest player to net a Premier League hat-trick for Chelsea.
