Indian Fan Opinions: Favourite Chelsea vs Liverpool Fixtures

As we build up to our next game vs Liverpool, we asked some Indian Blues for their favourite Chelsea vs Liverpool fixtures over the years.

Rohan Mehta, Navi Mumbai

My favourite Chelsea vs Liverpool fixture goes back to the 2013-14 season when Chelsea faced Liverpool at Anfield with three games in hand and Liverpool were sitting on top of the table. Even though Liverpool dominated the game initially, it was a 45th-minute goal by Demba Ba and a late goal by Willian, assisted by former Liverpool player Fernando Torres, that dented their title hopes.

The 2012 FA Cup Final has to be my favourite Chelsea vs Liverpool fixture. Ramires gave the Blues the lead by scoring a beautiful goal 11 minutes into the game. Didier Drogba then doubled the lead and we managed to hold on to win the cup. The win was even more special since Roberto Di Matteo not only achieved a rare feat by winning the FA Cup with Chelsea as a player and a manager but also set the stage for an incredible double that season.

Among the many top fixtures against Liverpool my favourite has to be the one in April 2014. Owing to a slip from Gerrard, Demba Ba scored an absolute beauty of a goal. This crucial goal also ended the Reds’ 16-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League and shattered their title hopes that season. All these factors make that game my favourite Chelsea vs Liverpool memory.

Chelsea vs Liverpool brings back so many good memories. One of my favourite fixtures from this rivalry has to be the second leg of the 2008 Champions League semi-finals. With the game tied at 1-1, the Blues won a penalty which was slotted home by none other than Frank Lampard. The game ended 3-2 and the victory for Chelsea was an emotional one for Frank, who showed us once again that day how strong he was.

My favourite match has to be the 2-1 victory at Anfield in the 2014-15 season. After conceding an early goal the momentum of the game was heavily in Liverpool’s favour. However, Chelsea slowly began to gain a foothold in the game leading up to Cahill scoring the equalizer. After that I could sense the match was only going one way and up stepped Diego Costa with a sublime winner! That was some win by the Blues!
