When was Chelsea FC founded?
Chelsea was founded in 1905 in Fulham, London by Gus Mears, an English businessman. Gus bought the Stamford Bridge athletics stadium with the plan of transforming it into a football ground. His original plan was to rent it to an existing club, but after a deal he made fell through, he decided to start a new club instead. Thus, Chelsea Football Club was born. How many Premier League championships has Chelsea FC won?
Chelsea have won one First Division Championship in 1955 and five English Premier League titles in 2005, 2006, 2010, 2015 and, most recently in 2017. To date, we’ve also lifted trophies for:

  • The 2012 UEFA Champions League
  • Two UEFA Europa League titles
  • Two UEFA Cup Winners Cups
  • Eight FA Cups, including the latest in 2018
  • Five League Cups
  • The 1998 UEFA Super Cup

Who are the all-time top scorers for Chelsea FC?
The top all-time scorers for Chelsea are currently Frank Lampard, Bobby Tambling, Kerry Dixon, Didier Drogba and Roy Bentley.

They rank:
#5 – Roy Bentley with 150 goals scored in 367 appearances from 1948–1956
#4 – Didier Drogba with 164 goals scored in 381 appearances from 2004–2012, 2014–15
#3 – Kerry Dixon with 193 goals scored in 420 appearances from 1983–1992
#2 – Bobby Tambling with 202 goals scored in 370 appearances from 1959–1970

This leaves Frank Lampard as the #1 top scorer for Chelsea FC with 211 goals scored in 648 appearances from 2001–2014.

Does Chelsea FC have any American players?
This is a popular question for U.S. supporters. The only American currently on the first team is Christian Pulisic from Hershey, Pennsylvania. He began playing at the start of the 2019–20 season as number 22. Another American on Chelsea’s books, Matt Miazga, spent the 2019–20 season on loan at Reading.

Who are Chelsea’s goalkeepers?
At the time of publication, our three goalkeepers are:

  • Kepa Arrizabalaga, number 1, a Spanish international goalkeeper who signed with Chelsea in 2018
  • Willy Caballero, number 13, hails from Argentina and joined Chelsea in 2017 having been out of contract at Manchester City.
  • Jamie Cumming, number 31, is a goalkeeper from Eastleigh who has been at the club since he was an Under-8 in our development center program.

What is the Chelsea FC mascot?
Having had five major crest redesigns in their history, the lion in the current Chelsea FC logo is based on the lion in the civic coat of arms for what was the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea. 

If you attend a match at Stamford Bridge, you might get to meet Stamford the Lion. Stamford was the original mascot created for the team, and he has since been joined by his lovable partner, Bridget the Lioness.

Who are some of the most-famous Chelsea FC fans?
