New goalkeeper added to Ladies squad

Chelsea Ladies FC is delighted to announce the signing of Sweden international goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl.

The Swedish No.1 becomes manager Emma Hayes’s fourth signing of the close season and will provide competition for Marie Hourihan during next year’s FA Women’s Super League and UEFA Women’s Champions League campaigns.

Lindahl, 31, joins from Swedish side Kristianstads DFF and has been named Swedish Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year on four separate occasions.

‘I am excited to join Chelsea Ladies and look forward to helping the club meet their targets of winning titles,’ said Lindahl.

‘Chelsea offers a superb setting in which I can further develop as a player and perform at the highest level.

‘My aim is to let my actions speak for themselves and be part of the team as we progress to an even higher level.’

Lindahl has amassed more than 90 international caps during a career that includes lining up for her country at three World Cups, three Olympic Games and multiple European Championships.

Manager Hayes added: ‘Hedvig is world class and will bring another dimension to our play. Her World Cup and European Championship experience will be invaluable and will bring the knowledge and expertise we need to compete on all fronts.

‘We now have two fantastic goalkeepers which is important for the squad with so many games to play. I'm very excited to work with her during the coming season.’

Lindahl is the fourth player to join the club this winter following defender Niamh Fahey, winger Gemma Davison and midfielder Millie Bright.
