Fans help fund Hilsdon headstone

Chelsea supporters have helped fund a new headstone marking the grave of Blues legend George Hilsdon.

The striker represented the club between 1906 and 1912, scoring 108 times in 164 appearances, making him the first player to record a century of goals for us and earning him the nickname ‘Gatling Gun’ for his prolific strike rate.

Hilsdon's career was effectively ended by injuries suffered on the Western Front during the First World War and he passed away in 1941, aged 56.

He was buried in an unmarked grave in Leicestershire, but thanks to the work of supporters Hilsdon now has the headstone he deserves.
