David Luiz: Point made

Fresh from spectacularly finding the net on his 100th Premier League appearance, David Luiz assessed the final outcome at Anfield and drew a positive conclusion.

There were chances for the Blues to take all three points after Georginio Wijnaldum had cancelled out the Brazilian’s free-kick opener, not least when Diego Costa had his penalty saved, but David Luiz explained why the 1-1 scoreline still suited us.

‘It’s never easy to play here and to win points here,’ he said.

‘We had the opportunity to win the game and we were unlucky we didn’t win. But the other team also played very well in possession, they have amazing players.

‘This is the atmosphere that when you are a footballer you need to be happy you have the opportunity to play this kind of game. It’s always very nice to come here and play football.

‘In the end, if you look at everything, I think it was a good result and a good point. It gives us confidence before Arsenal.’

David Luiz’s free-kick was the standout moment from a Chelsea perspective.

‘It’s been a long time! Sometimes you need to try the surprise. I saw he was not in position so I tried to surprise him.

‘Sometimes in the game you need to feel the game and see the opportunity. I was happy because I did well.’

The other results were favourable to Chelsea, with Tottenham drawing and Arsenal, our next opponents, losing.

‘This is the Premier League, that’s why it’s amazing!

‘It’s never easy to win points in the Premier League. Every single match is so difficult. The season is long so we must keep working hard and use our ability.’
