Ladies to sign Sweden international

Chelsea Ladies are set to strengthen the squad by agreeing terms for the transfer of Sweden international Jonna Andersson from Linkopings, with the defender to join officially when the transfer window opens on Friday 29 December.

The versatile 24-year-old, who is capable of playing as a left-back or wing-back, will arrive following an nine-year spell at Linkopings, where she was a team-mate of Magdalena Eriksson, who joined Chelsea Ladies in July.

A quick and committed performer, Andersson is a fantastic reader of the game and helped Linkopings win six major trophies – three league titles and three Swedish Cups – during her time at the club.

Andersson said: ‘I’m very happy to sign for Chelsea. It’s a great club, I know they have a huge project and I am excited to be part of that.

‘I’m looking forward to joining up with the squad and starting a new challenge in my career. I also want to thank Linkopings FC for everything. I had nine very good years with the club, where I learned a lot and that’s why I’m here today.’

Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes added: ‘Jonna is a player I am very excited about. I have been keeping tabs on her for a while and this is the perfect time for her to take the next step in her career.

‘She has a fantastic left foot and is among the top assist makers in Sweden and will add another dimension to our squad. She is a good character and a winner and is the perfect profile for what we are building here.’
