There were plenty of Chelsea connections in the Championship fixture between Derby County and Aston Villa, with Tammy Abraham (pictured top) on target in a 3-0 win for the Villans at Pride Park. It was the first time Frank Lampard and John Terry have gone face to face in their respective roles with the two clubs, with Villa netting three times in 11 second-half minutes to move within four points of the play-off places. Abraham scored the second, while Fikayo Tomori played at the back for the Rams. Mason Mount missed the game due to an ankle injury.
It was a good weekend for Kenedy and Newcastle United, who recorded back-to-back Premier League for the first time this season. The Brazilian set up Salomon Rondon’s second goal with a fine cross in a 2-1 win against Bournemouth at St James’ Park. Newcastle are up to 14th.
Back to the Championship, and Michael Hector helped Sheffield Wednesday keep a clean sheet in the Sheffield derby, Friday’s live TV game. It ended goalless. United missed a penalty.
Trevoh Chalobah started in a 2-2 draw for Ipswich at Reading, and Kasey Palmer played the full 90 minutes for Blackburn who drew 1-1 against Rotherham. Todd Kane was a late substitute for Hull in their 3-3 draw at Birmingham. Both Tomas Kalas and Jay Dasilva were in the Bristol City defence in a 1-0 defeat against Preston, with Reece James starting for Wigan who lost 2-0 at Middlesbrough.
In the FA Cup first round at the weekend, Jacob Maddox was in the Cheltenham midfield against Ebbsfleet, a match which ended goalless. Ike Ugbo played up front for Scunthorpe, who beat Burton Albion 2-1, with Bradley Collins featuring in goal for Burton. Nathan Baxter was between the sticks for Yeovil who lost 3-1 against Stockport County.
In last week’s Europa League fixtures, Tiemoue Bakayoko was in the AC Milan midfield for a 1-1 draw at Real Betis. The result left the Italian side one point behind the Spaniards in second place in Group F.
There was a big 4-1 win for Atalanta at home to Inter in Serie A on Sunday. Mario Pasalic came on for the victors with 20 minutes left to play and the score 2-1. It was not such a good day for Bakayoko and AC Milan who were beaten 2-0 by Juventus in the big game at the San Siro. Milan were also down to 10 men by the end with Gonzalo Higuain the player dismissed.
In La Liga, Kenneth Omeruo helped Leganes keep a clan sheet in a goalless draw at Girona which was also the result in the Spanish second division match between Tenerife and Albacete. Jhoao Rodriguez came on in the second half for Tenerife.
In the Dutch Eredivisie, Eduardo and Jake Clarke-Salter both started for Vitesse who won 2-1 at home to Utrecht. Kyle Scott played up front for Telstar as they beat FC Eindhoven by the same scoreline in the Dutch second tier.
In the Belgian top flight, Kylian Hazard was in the Cercle Brugge midfield in a 2-0 victory over Waasland-Beveren. Danilo Pantic went off after half an hour of Partizan Belgrade’s 2-0 win over Radnik in the Serbian Super Liga. In the French second division, Victorien Angban played for Metz who won 2-1 at Chateauroux.
