Maurizio Sarri has confirmed Gary Cahill will remain the Chelsea captain for this season.
The boss had previously said he wanted to wait until he had been around all his players for a while before deciding who would wear the armband, and at his press conference today he explained Cahill would continue as our skipper whenever he was on the pitch.
'As we have seen in the last matches the captain is Cahill, and if Cahill is not on the pitch, the captain is Azpilicueta, like at Burnley,' Sarri said.
'Our captain is Cahill. Cahill was the captain last season. I spoke with his team-mates and everybody told me he was really a very good captain.'
Sarri also assessed if this means Cahill will stay at Stamford Bridge for the duration of this season.
‘It depends on him. He played very often in the last seven or eight matches. I don’t know, it depends on him and the club.
‘For me, Cahill is very important on the pitch, but also off the pitch.’
