Blues face Manchester trip in Youth Cup opener

Chelsea Under-18s will face Manchester United away in the third round of this season’s FA Youth Cup.

The Blues have won the competition for the past five years running and have only lost one tie in seven years but face a tough test in their opener this term, with United having lost just once so far this season.

Andy Myers’s side are third in the Under-18 Premier League southern section and have won their last seven matches in all competitions.

Our last Youth Cup meeting with the Red Devils was in January 2016 when Joe Edwards’s side won 5-1 with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham on the scoresheet. The scoreline was closer in the 2011/12 semi-finals but we advanced again 3-2 on aggregate before beating Blackburn Rovers in the final.

April 2011 was the last time the Reds knocked us out, overturning a 3-2 first-leg deficit to triumph 6-3 on aggregate with Michael Keane and Paul Pogba in the side.

Third round ties are due to be played by Saturday 15 December. Details on fixture dates and further information will be confirmed in due course.
