Eden Hazard's road to 100 goals

Eden Hazard joined some illustrious company on Boxing Day when he became the 10th player to net a century of goals for Chelsea in competitive games.

With his the first of his two strikes against Watford, the brilliant Belgian joined a distinguished group of Blues legends which includes Roy Bentley, Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Tambling, Peter Osgood, Kerry Dixon, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.

To mark Eden Hazard's special achievement, here is a look back at some of the milestone goals by Chelsea’s No.10 on his way to joining the centurion’s club at Stamford Bridge.

#1 – Newcastle United (h) – 25.08.2012

Hazard took just four games to get off the mark for the Blues after his arrival from Lille in the summer of 2012. With regular penalty-taker Frank Lampard on the bench for our Premier League clash with Newcastle, he took responsibility when Fernando Torres was fouled in the box midway through the first half and drove the ball past Tim Krul into the bottom corner to open the scoring in our 2-0 win.

#10 – Sparta Prague (h) – 21.02.2013

Probably the most important of the 13 goals that Hazard scored in his debut season at the Bridge. With our Europa League match against Sparta Prague tied 1-1 on aggregate, the Belgian broke into the opposition box two minutes into stoppage time and drilled an unstoppable left-footed shot past Tomas Vaclik into the roof of the net to secure victory. His dramatic winner sent us through to the last 16 as we went on to lift the Europa League trophy for the first time.

#25 – Newcastle United (h) – 08.02.2014

Newcastle have been one of Hazard’s favourite opponents during his time in England with the Belgian plundering seven goals against the Magpies. He also bagged his first Chelsea hat-trick against them in February 2014, reaching the 25-goal mark for the Blues with his opener after 27 minutes as he met Branislav Ivanovic’s low cross with a firm right-footed drive into the far corner of the net.

#50 – MK Dons (a) – 31.01.2016

After netting his 49th Chelsea goal against Crystal Palace to secure the Premier League title in May 2015, Hazard suffered his longest scoring drought with the Blues, going nearly nine months without a goal. He finally ended that slump by converting a penalty in our 5-1 win at MK Dons in the FA Cup, and kissed the badge on his shirt in a gesture that was warmly received by the travelling fans.

#60 – Southampton (a) – 31.10.2016

Hazard was back to his best at the start of the 2016/17 season and was named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for October after scoring in three straight league games. After goals in emphatic home wins against champions Leicester City and Manchester United, he opened the scoring with a fine effort after six minutes in our 2-0 win at Southampton, cutting inside defender Steven Davis on the right byline before drilling a left-footed shot between the legs of goalkeeper Fraser Foster.

#75 – Bournemouth (a) – 28.10.2017

Hazard made a late start to the 2017/18 season after being sidelined by an ankle injury for much of the summer. However, he opened his account for the campaign with a brace in a 3-3 draw with Roma, before notching his first Premier League goal of the season with a fine finish at Bournemouth. Gathering in Alvaro Morata’s cross-field pass on the left edge of the Cherries’ box, the Belgian took aim before rifling a low drive past Asmir Begovic at his near post for the only goal of the game.

#90 – Newcastle United (a) – 26.08.2018

After converting the match-winning penalty in the 2018 FA Cup final against Manchester United for his 89th Chelsea goal, Hazard got his 90th in similar fashion at Newcastle in September, as he blasted the ball past Martin Dubravka to help us to our first victory at St James’ Park for seven years. Of the 29 penalties he has taken for the Blues, the Belgian has failed to find the net only five times although two of his attempts were subsequently put away at the second attempt.
