Eden Hazard has explained why our 2-0 victory over Manchester City was a massive result and hopes this is the start of another winning run for the Blues.
We produced a fantastic display to inflict a first Premier League defeat of the season on the champions, soaking up a great deal of pressure in the opening period before Hazard provided a delightful assist for N’Golo Kante to open the scoring with a powerful finish on the brink of half-time.
We than posed a much greater attacking threat after the interval and the Belgian was the provider of our second as well – taking his tally of assists in the league this season to eight – as David Luiz superbly headed his corner past Ederson to secure all three points.
Hazard believes it was an important win, particularly after our defeat to Wolves on Wednesday night.
‘It feels really good, especially after the game in midweek when we lost against Wolverhampton,’ he said. ‘It was a hard game, especially in the first half, but in the second half we controlled the game and we scored two goals. At the end I think we deserved to win and we need to go on.
‘When you lose you always need to show something because we are Chelsea. When we lose – for the fans, for the board, for everyone – we just want to win again. Of course, the feeling is even better when you play against what I think is the best team in the country and you win. We can enjoy this.’
Maurizio Sarri deployed Hazard in the middle of an attacking three – flanked by Wilian and Pedro – a role he has performed in the past.
‘I like it, because I played it last year also, so I know what to do, but the feeling is a bit strange because you don’t touch the ball a lot,’ he said. ‘You just need to focus on what you need to do and I tried to do my best, we won and that is what is important.’
Hazard says the joy of the win will only be short-lived as the players focus on a busy week ahead, with a trip to Hungary for our final Europa League group fixture against Vidi followed by next Sunday’s Premier League outing against Brighton.
‘We just want to win games and now this one has finished, we can enjoy the win, but we need to be focused for the game on Thursday and next week at Brighton.’
