The opponents, dates and venues for our fixtures in this summer’s International Champions Cup have been announced, with Chelsea set to play matches in Sweden and Poland against high-quality sides from across Europe.
The Blues, who will be taking part in the competition for the fifth time, will play games against Sevilla, Inter Milan and Arsenal, with two matches to be held in Sweden and one in Poland, although the game against Arsenal would not go ahead should Chelsea qualify to compete in the FA Community Shield match in August.
The first of those fixtures will be against Spanish side Sevilla, who reached the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League, with that game taking place at the National Stadium in Warsaw on Saturday 28 July.
We will then play against Inter for the second pre-season in succession having faced the Italians in Singapore last year (pictured top). This time we meet in Sweden in Gothenburg’s Ullevi Stadium on Wednesday 1 August.
Our final fixture in the competition on Saturday 4 August (subject to our possible involvement in the Community Shield) is against familiar opposition in the shape of London rivals Arsenal, whom we will play at the Friends Arena in Stockholm – the city where we lifted the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1998. Like Inter, we played against the Gunners as part of last year’s pre-season tour, with the Blues running out 3-0 winners at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing.
Each team will play three matches in this year’s International Champions Cup and the club with the most points at the end of the tournament will be crowned winners.
The matches will form part of our pre-season schedule, which also includes a game in Perth in Australia on Monday 23 July, and provide an opportunity for our supporters across Europe to watch the team in action at close quarters.
