Chelsea Women sign Durack

Chelsea FC Women have completed the signing of Lizzie Durack, who has been brought in to provide competition in the goalkeeping position.

The 24-year-old arrives from Everton, where she spent the 2017/18 WSL 1 season, her second spell with the Toffees, having previously played in both Australia and the US. She is expected to challenge our current goalkeepers Hedvig Lindahl and Carly Telford.

Upon signing for Chelsea Women, Durack said: ‘It's unbelievably exciting! For a while now, Chelsea have been a team everyone in the country and in Europe has really looked up to, so to have the opportunity to be a part of that is so awesome.

‘First off, I want to help build on what is already a really strong goalkeepers group, and in turn help the team continue to be so successful. On a personal level, I'm really hoping to gain lots of experience from Viggy and Carly, so that down the line I can have the opportunities they now have to play at the highest levels.’

Chelsea Women general manager Paul Green added: ‘We are really pleased to bring Lizzie to the club. She is a good person with great character.
Lizzie knows our environment from training with us a couple of years ago when she was still studying in the US and was on a work placement in London. We know that she will fit the dressing room and we are looking forward to working with her.

‘Lizzie will bring a willingness to learn and a good work ethic and training standard to the goalkeeping group. She is keen to develop and improve her game which I feel that she can do working under Stuart Searle day in, day out.

‘Lizzie is still quite young but has a lot of experience for her age, having played first team football in Australia, America and England as well as being capped internationally at all levels. That experience we feel will be invaluable to the squad as it is important for us to have three goalkeepers who are all capable of playing at the top level.’

Having started her career in Australia, where she was born, Durack has gone on to gain experience in various leagues, as well as earning international recognition for England.
