Myers appointed Under-18s manager

  • 29 Jun 2018

Andy Myers is the new person in charge of the Chelsea Under-18s team.

Myers has spent 10 years working as an Academy coach, leading the Under-15 age group before moving up to assist with the Under-21s and Under-19s. He was part of the backroom team that helped secure consecutive triumphs in the UEFA Youth League and a league title for the Under-21s in 2013/14.

Our former defender, who made over 100 first team appearances for the club, spent a season in a coaching role at Vitesse Arnhem in 2016/17 before returning to Cobham to assist Joe Edwards with the development squad last term.

He succeeds Jody Morris in the role of Under-18s manager.

'Andy has been coaching in a number of roles at the Academy for the past decade so he knows our programme extremely well and, as an ex-player, has a strong connection to the club,' says Neil Bath, head of youth development.

'It's a well-deserved move into a lead coaching role and I know Andy is looking forward to continuing his work with the development of our young players.'

The Under-18s return for pre-season training next week before their first friendly against Oxford United on Monday 16 July. This game will be held as Surrey FA’s launch event for their brand-new home, Meadowbank Football Ground in Dorking. Kick-off is at 7.30pm and tickets are available free of charge via this link
