Chelsea FC Foundation Futsal continues to thrive with the Foundation’s Under-10 team recently making it to the semi-finals of the FA Futsal Youth Cup National Finals.
A team who was playing in just their third competitive tournament, Chelsea had qualified for the tournament at the Play Football Arena in Birmingham through the Regional Qualifiers having beat some established academies along the way.
The tournament began with a comfortable 4-0 win over Durham Futsal Club before coming out on top in a tough contest against Heaton Mersey Vipers, winning 4-2 thanks to two late goals.
A 3-2 victory over the University of Nottingham Futsal Club and a 3-0 triumph against Wiltshire Football Academy meant Chelsea booked their place in the semi-finals.
Despite scoring a late equaliser against Milton Colts to make it 3-3 at the semi-final stage, Chelsea suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat which meant their opponents would progress to the final.
Futsal development coordinator, James Phillips, said: ‘A fantastic event was enjoyed by all of the boys, with many parents commenting that it was extremely nice to be involved in the competitions and what an insight into the world of Futsal it gave the boys.
‘Most of them had no experience before this tournament of the game, but all of those individuals said that afterwards they would love to give it another go.
‘A massive well done to all involved, including the coaching staff, for getting this far in the FA Futsal Youth Cup.’
