To mark the launch of our new Nike away kit, four players headed to a local sports store in Perth to meet Chelsea supporters and answer their questions.
New signing Jorginho was joined by Ross Barkley, Tammy Abraham and Charly Musonda at the Nike event on Saturday afternoon. A couple of hundred Blues fans, many of whom had queued all day, were in attendance, and they heard from and then got the chance to meet their heroes.
Jorginho proved a real hit with the locals and he was delighted to meet some of his new supporters, who he said had been so welcoming ever since the squad touched down on Australian soil.
Barkley revealed his admiration for the new yellow away kit that the players will wear for the first time when we play Inter Milan next Saturday, while Musonda answered questions on his inspirations growing up and his experience of Perth so far.
Then it was time for autographs and selfies as Chelsea fans from far and wide waited patiently to get the chance to meet the quartet and capture the moment forever.
Michael Re was one such supporter. He has travelled from Adelaide for Monday’s game and was thrilled to meet the players, and the fact his cousin acted as Jorginho’s translator made the event extra special.
‘I got here on Friday night and I’m leaving on Tuesday,’ he said.
‘I’m super excited to see the guys play. I was over in the UK in 2006 and saw us play Liverpool in the Community Shield at the Millenium Stadium.
‘Gianfranco Zola was the reason why I started supporting Chelsea. I have an Italian background and had followed his career throughout. I’m very excited he is back with the club now. And having Sarri is great because I love Napoli too.’
Having bid their farewells, the players headed back to the team hotel after an enjoyable afternoon all round.
