Maurizio Sarri spoke to the media ahead of Sunday's FA Community Shield against Manchester City, and the Italian expressed his delight about Pedro signing a contract extension.
Among the subjects the Italian discussed were Sunday's game, his relationship with Pep Guardiola and the fitness levels of our players.
You can read some of Sarri's thoughts below.
On Pedro signing a one-year contract extension
I’m very happy about this. Pedro is very important to us. He’s a very technical player, very usable for me and I’m really happy about his new contract. He’s a top player and it’s very important for us to keep the top players.
I spoke yesterday with him about his lateness. It was a very positive conversation so I’m very happy about it. There is no Willian problem.
On whether he thinks the Brazilian will stay at the club
Yes I do. I'm very confident.
On the future of Thibaut Courtois
I don’t know. At the moment Courtois is the goalkeeper of Chelsea. I don’t know about the future, it depends on the club and especially on him, but I hope Courtois will be our goalkeeper.
On Sunday's game
First of all I’m looking forward to playing at Wembley because it’s my first time. The match will be very difficult for us. I want to win because it’s very important but at this moment of the season it’s very important to have a good performance. We have to improve and I hope to see from my team another step.
On his relationship with Guardiola
We went together to visit Arrigo Sacchi so Guardiola is a friend. I think he’s the best coach in the world, or one of the best for sure. The match is very difficult for one reason: they have worked together for two years and we started two-and-a-half weeks ago, so for us it will be a very difficult match.
On the availability of Cesc Fabregas
Cesc doesn’t have a serious injury. I don’t know if he will be able to play on Sunday but it’s nothing serious. Maybe the starting 11 will be very near to the last match. But maybe something different can happen, I don’t know. Tomorrow morning I will decide.
On David Luiz and Ruben Loftus-Cheek
I’m very happy with David, for his attitude. I think David will be very important for the team and for me. Loftus-Cheek I have only seen for three or four training sessions so I want to wait to adjudicate.
On our fitness levels
Of course the players are not at the top level, they are a bit tired maybe because of a lot of training, travelling and matches. So we are not at the top level but we have to try to have a good performance and result.
