Marcos Alonso is among the nominations for August’s EA Sports Player of the Month award.
The Spaniard has been named on a seven-man shortlist after enjoying a wonderful start to the season for the Blues, playing at left-back in a 4-3-3 system and being heavily involved in all three of our victories.
On the opening day of the season at Huddersfield, Alonso won the penalty which was converted by Jorginho in our 3-0 victory, and a week later he fired home the winning goal against Arsenal having teed up Pedro to score the opener earlier in the game.
Most recently, Alonso was awarded another penalty against Newcastle last week, from which Eden Hazard broke the deadlock, and he made another pivotal contribution late in the game when his volley was diverted into his own net by DeAndre Yedlin, ensuring we took all three points. You can vote for Alonso here.
