Hat-trick helps Hazard join select group

Eden Hazard’s hat-trick today not only helped the Blues extend our winning run to five matches, it also ensured the 27-year-old is now tenth in our all-time top scorers list.

Hazard joins a top 10 which includes the likes of Frank Lampard, who is top of the pile, Bobby Tambling, Peter Osgood and Jimmy Greaves, players who over the years have brought so much joy to the Stamford Bridge faithful, a category the brilliant Belgian undoubtedly falls into.

Hazard went into today’s game against Cardiff having scored 91 Chelsea goals in total. The first of his three strikes brought him level with Tommy Baldwin on 92, and after scoring two more he moved one ahead of Barry Bridges in the all-time chart with 94.

Hazard has now scored five goals this season for the Blues, and seven for club and country. He has scored in every game in which he has started.

Today’s hat-trick also ensured he is the early pace-setter in the race for the Golden Boot, with one more goal than both Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic. Hazard’s Chelsea team-mate Pedro is one of a handful of players who have scored three goals this season.
