Lifting the Lid: Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso reveals some behind-the scenes information about his Chelsea team-mates in the latest instalment of a new feature for this season.

The Spaniard tells us why one of his compatriots is always good for a laugh in the dressing room and why another is definitely worth following on social media, as well as answering a question set by the last player to take part in the feature, Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Who has been the best player in training recently?

I’d say Pedro, he’s been on fire since pre-season. He was scoring in pre-season and he’s started really well so I hope he continues to score goals and helps us reach our target, which is to win everything.

Of the outfield players, who would make a good goalie?

Good question. Toni Rudiger. He’s quick, he has good reflexes and he’s a lion.

Which defender would make a good striker?

That’s an easy one. I have to go for me. I used to play as a striker when I was a kid, I really enjoyed it and I’ve kept some of the things I used to do, it’s good to score goals to help the team.

Who do you sit with on away trips? How do you pass the time?

On a four-man table: myself, Cesc Fabregas, Willy Caballero and Pedro. We like to play a board game called Parcheesi.

Who controls the music in the dressing room?

The kit man. If we want a song on the playlist he takes care of everything. It’s hard work and he does a good job.

Who is good at lifting morale after defeat?

John Terry used to do this very well. In my first year he was very good for us even if he didn’t play that much. Off the pitch he played a huge part in us winning the title and I think now Fabregas, Azpi and David Luiz are all good characters in the changing room.

Who is the joker in the dressing room?

Pedro has been really funny lately. In the last couple of years he’s learnt English and now he cracks jokes in English as well, he’s very funny.

Who is the quietest?

N’Golo Kante is one but also Ross Barkley when he first came was quiet, now he has picked up a lot of confidence. He’s a nice guy, very funny. I’m used to his accent from when I lived in Manchester, near Liverpool.

Who is the loudest?

That’s too hard to answer.

Who is good at free-kicks in training that we may not know about?

Barkley. He stayed behind the other day and was on fire. Davide Zappacosta as well.

Who is the most active on Instagram?

Maybe Alvaro Morata, he likes to post every day. He’s very active.

Who should fans follow on social media?

Everyone. Cesc is funny on there sometimes.

Who do you eat with at Cobham?

We eat together, it just depends on the time but there are no fixed places.

Who took the longest to learn English?

There are some still trying but Zappacosta learnt very quickly and Pedro is very good now.

And the question from Ruben...

If you could be any height, what would it be?

I'm happy just the way I am but if I was 10 centimetres smaller I could probably be a winger.
