Chelsea Women will face Lyon in the semi-final of the Women’s Champions League after an enthralling quarter-final tie against Paris St-Germain, and the fixture dates have been set.
After overcoming last year’s runners up of the European competition with a highly entertaining two-leg tie finishing 3-2 on aggregate, Chelsea Women will prepare to face the French giants Lyon at the end of April.
The first leg of the semi-final is due to take place away at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday 21 April, 4pm kick-off (UK time), with the second leg being held at Kingsmeadow the following Sunday (28 April) with a 2pm kick-off.
Tickets go on sale for the home leg from 4pm tomorrow (Wednesday) with prices £6 adults and FREE for juniors and seniors.
Emma Hayes’ side could not have got off to a brighter start after taking a two-goal advantage from the first leg at Kingsmeadow, which put them in good stead as they prepared to travel to Stade Jean-Bouin. Hannah Blundell struck a left-footed blinder into the top corner and Erin Cuthbert sealed the deal with a calm and collected finish in the latter stages of the match.
After a highly dramatic night in the French capital in front of a noisy crowd consisting of over 10,000 supporters, the Blues dug in and showed great character despite PSG cancelling out their 2-0 lead. Firstly, Paris got back into the tie when Kadidiatou Diani poked past Ann-Katrin Berger, and then an unfortunate slip of the gloves from our keeper drew the hosts level.
However, Maren Mjelde saved the day by unleashing a quality shot that rifled beyond Christiane Endler, sending the Blues through to the semi-final stage for a second consecutive season!
