Ricardo Carvalho will join fellow Chelsea legends Didier Drogba and Joe Cole at June’s Soccer Aid for Unicef match at Stamford Bridge.
Carvalho, who lifted three Premier League titles during his six-year stay at the Bridge, teams up again with Drogba for the Soccer Aid World XI, facing up against former team-mate Cole who will be representing England.
‘It's an honour to be asked to play in Soccer Aid for Unicef 2019 and to return to Stamford Bridge,’ Carvalho said. ‘I had some incredible years at Chelsea, so to be back at the Bridge alongside some familiar faces be a special moment.
‘This is an important game – I’m proud to be able to help Unicef raise funds for its vital work for vulnerable children all over the world.’
Carvalho will be a special guest at tonight’s game against West Ham United and will be speaking about the Soccer Aid match before kick-off.
Other stars lined up to play in the contest include athletes Usain Bolt and Sir Mo Farah, pop star Niall Horan and former England midfielder and Frank Lampard’s cousin, Jamie Redknapp. His father, Harry, will be managing the England team alongside TV presenter Susanna Reid, while Sam Allardyce and Piers Morgan are bossing the World XI team.
Tickets for Soccer Aid for Unicef 2019, which takes place on Sunday 16 June, are available now. Prices begin at £10 for under-16s and £20 for adults, meaning a family of four can attend for £60.
