Ahead of today’s meeting with Liverpool at Anfield, Olivier Giroud has stressed this is the kind of fixture the players relish with so much at stake for both sides.
The centre-forward has no shortage of experience of matches between clubs in the ‘big six’ and indeed he led the line when we hosted the Reds at Stamford Bridge for a 1-1 draw in September.
‘We are looking forward to this game,’ Giroud confirmed.
‘As competitors we want to play these big games. Liverpool is fighting for the title. They will have to win for sure to stay in the title race, but we need a good result as well to keep our chances for the Champions League race.
‘We need to be careful because we don’t want to expose ourselves too much. We know their quality, especially in counter-attacks. They have three amazing strikers. We are going to work on that.
‘But we showed in the game at home we can compete with them, we can match them, so we need to go there and start the game on the front foot and believe in our qualities.’
