Chelsea FC Women’s Regional Talent Club under-16s have reached The FA Girls' Youth Cup final and will play Arsenal on Saturday 27 April.
The young Blues cup journey got off to a flying start against Aston Villa Girls back in September, resulting in an 8-1 victory. Three players, Amelie Darey, Letitia Nicholls and Emma Thompson all netted two goals apiece. Maisie Symonds added an extra to increase the lead, while Villa helped the score line with an own-goal but managed to pull one back as a consolation goal.
In the second round, we took on West Bromwich Albion Girls and came out victorious with an outstanding 11-1 win. Thompson was on the score sheet again after getting four goals and Aggie Beever-Jones bagged a hat-trick. Tegan McGowan earnt a brace, with Arabella Suttie and Jorja Fox adding a goal each to the score line.
For the quarter-finals, we drew Southampton Girls and this match challenged the squad much more than previous games. But the girls rose to the occasion and came out on top after a 3-2 win with Thompson, Symonds and Nicholls the goal scorers.
Manchester United Foundation Girls travelled to Cobham on Saturday 2 March for the semi-final, which resulted in Thompson, Nicholls and Charlotte Wardlaw all hitting the target. However, at full-time the game was drawn 3-3 which meant it went straight to a penalty shoot-out. There were tense scenes at the Chelsea training ground but Wardlaw fired home the final penalty which sent our Blues through to the FA Girl's Youth Cup final with an enthralling 5-4 victory!
The final against Arsenal is a 3pm kick-off and will take place at Quorn FC, Loughborough. All entry to the match is free.
