Ji So-Yun and Erin Cuthbert make PFA Player of the Year shortlists

Two Chelsea Women stars are in the running for the Professional Footballers’ Association senior award and one is up for the junior category…

Two of the Chelsea players currently in France preparing for the Women’s Champions League semi-final first leg against reigning European champions Olympique Lyonnais have been nominated for PFA Player of the Year awards.

Following on from the announcement earlier in the day that Eden Hazard is on the shortlist for the men’s Player of the Year award, both Ji So-Yun and Erin Cuthbert are nominees for Women’s PFA Player of the Year, and 20-year-old Cuthbert is also one of six people in the running for the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year award.

She is the second highest appearance maker for Chelsea Women this season, having played 32 games so far, and the Scotland international, who helped her nation make the World Cup for the first time, has scored 10 goals for her club in the 2018/19 campaign.

Ji, a former winner of Women’s Player of the Year in 2015, has made 27 appearances and scored seven goals as a midfield playmaker. Her team-mate Fran Kirby won the award last season.

Ji said of her shortlisting: 'I am extremely happy to be nominated for the PFA award, it is a real honour.'

Cuthbert added: 'It is a great feeling to be nominated for both categories. To have the respect of your peers is a great honour and it also is to be alongside some top-class players who have been in really good form this season.'

The full list of nominations are:

Erin Cuthbert
Steph Houghton (Manchester City)
Vivianne Miedema (Arsenal)
