Four Chelsea Women players have been chosen by Lionesses’ head coach Phil Neville to represent England Women at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.
Millie Bright, Karen Carney, Fran Kirby (pictured top) and Carly Telford are among the players to be selected for the 23-player squad. Final preparations begin when they join their England team-mates at St George’s Park on Friday 17 May.
The Lionesses’ Road to France Series continues when they take on Denmark at Walsall FC’s Bank’s Stadium on Saturday 25 May, with their send-off friendly being on the South Coast at Brighton and Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium against New Zealand and Chelsea Women’s Ali Riley on Saturday 1 June.
For Bright, this will be her first World Cup but Carney is set to participate in her fourth international tournament after making her debut in 2007. For, Kirby this will be her second World Cup tournament after she made her first appearance in the 2015 edition in Canada and Telford has been part of England’s 2007 and 2015 tournament squads.
England’s first group stage match in France takes place on Sunday 9 June in Nice against Scotland for whom Blues striker Erin Cuthbert is expected to play.
The Lionesses’ Group D also consists of Argentina who are ranked 37th in the FIFA World Ranking system and Japan who are placed seventh.
Other squads which have so far been announced include Norway who have named Maren Mjelde and Maria Thorisdottir in their party, South Korea who have included Ji So-Yun and New Zealand with Ali Riley on the list.
