Eden Hazard’s stunning solo strike against Liverpool has been voted the Chelsea Goal of the Season.
Hazard wins the award for an unprecedented third time following his spectacular goals against Tottenham in 2016 and Arsenal in 2017. The opposition name of Liverpool can now be added to that impressive list of teams the Belgian has scored wondergoals against.
Five minutes remained in the third round of our Carabao Cup tie at Anfield back in September when Hazard produced something out of the ordinary, even by his exceptionally high standards. After beating a host of Liverpool players and throwing in a couple of nutmegs for good measure, he fired a bullet across goal into the far corner to secure a 2-1 win. Dennis Wise was on hand to give Hazard the award.
‘The Liverpool one,’ laughed Hazard when asked to pick between the eventual winner and his West Ham goal.
‘To score in Anfield and to beat them in Anfield is always a great feeling. I was just happy to score a goal like that. The fans love it so I do it for them.'
