Three Blues players have been selected to represent Sweden at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France which kicks off in 22 days.
Magdalena Erikssson (pictured above), Jonna Andersson and Hedvig Lindahl, who is leaving Chelsea following the end of the WSL season, have been selected for Sweden’s 23-player World Cup squad. The Scandinavians will take on Ji So-Yun’s South Korea on home soil in Gothenburg on Friday 31 May in a warm-up friendly ahead of the tournament.
Although Andersson and Eriksson are well-established players within the Swedish national team, this will be their first World Cup tournament.
Both defenders have represented their country at various youth levels and were part of the victorious squad at the 2012 Under-19 European Championships in Turkey.
Lindahl made her senior debut in 2002 and is set to increase her impressive tally of over 150 caps this summer when she participates in her fifth World Cup finals and 12th major tournament.
Sweden are in Group F along with Chile, Thailand and USA, whom they have been drawn into the same group with in every World Cup since 2003. Their opening group match takes place in Rennes on Tuesday 11 June against Chile.
