David Luiz reflected on another trophy-winning season as a Chelsea player following Wednesday night’s Europa League triumph in Baku.
The defender was a rock at the back, going on to lift the third European title of his Chelsea career following the Champions League in 2012 and this trophy a year later.
‘It was a great year. We had some ups and downs but I think we improved a lot during the season,’ the Brazilian said. ‘We learnt a lot and we qualified for the Champions League and today we won a trophy. It is my third title with Chelsea in Europe - so many medals.’
David Luiz also had praise for Maurizio Sarri, who himself lifted his first major silverware as a coach.
‘Maurizio Sarri has believed in my game, he is a great guy, a great person and a great coach so he deserves it,’ the 32-year-old said.
‘I think the manager is doing amazing for this club. There is speculation and people talk about things every day but now is the time to talk about the title.
‘We won against a great team, I think Arsenal did fantastic in this competition, was a tough opponent today. We deserved it more but I congratulate Arsenal.’
