Our Europa League triumph resulted in Pedro lifting a trophy for the 26th time in his career, and the Premier League’s most decorated current player has now scored in the decisive match of all three UEFA club competitions.
Between his spells at Chelsea and Barcelona, as well as at international level, the Spaniard has been a serial winner throughout his career.
Having won every competition possible in Catalonia, and adding the World Cup and European Championship to his honours list with Spain, Pedro came to Stamford Bridge in 2015 and has continued to build his mountain of winner’s medals in west London.
Having won the Premier League title in his second season here, he added the FA Cup to his CV last term and then his latest piece of silverware in Baku last night.
That means the League Cup is now the only competition Pedro has played in without receiving a winner’s medal, having come a penalty shoot-out away from an incredible clean sweep of honours, in this year’s final against Manchester City.
Pedro’s trophy haul includes all three UEFA club competitions – the Champions League, Europa League and Super Cup – and impressively he has got his name on the score sheet in the decisive match when winning each of them.
Of course, he completed that feat against Arsenal in Azerbaijan on Wednesday, when he guided Eden Hazard’s cross into the back of the net to put us 2-0 up against the Gunners, en route to a 4-1 victory.
Our number 11 certainly played a significant role in helping us lift the trophy, with that strike in the final his fifth goal in 14 appearances in this season’s competition.
Pedro also got on the score sheet when Barcelona won the 2011 Champions League final in London. He opened the scoring in the first half at Wembley against Manchester United, setting the Spaniards on their way to a 3-1 win, on the second of three occasions he lifted that trophy with Barca.
Pedro also won a trio of UEFA Super Cups during his time at the Nou Camp, and got the winning goal in two of them.
Both came in extra-time, first getting the only goal of the game against Shakhtar Donetsk in Monaco in 2009, and then completing the scoring in an epic 5-4 victory over Sevilla in 2015, the latter coming just nine days before he left Barcelona for Chelsea.
