After Frank Lampard was announced as the new Chelsea head coach, the football world reacted to the news and there was plenty of support from former team-mates of our record goalscorer.

On social media and in the press, there was goodwill after our former midfielder was unveiled to the world as our new boss. Here, we look at the best of the posts and quotes...

John Terry

'It's perfect timing for him and the club. Frank was under pressure to succeed at Chelsea the day he arrived from West Ham and he never hid from that. He revelled in it and went on to become Chelsea’s greatest ever player. Lamps is a legend and now is the right time for him to come home.

'Frank has always been a great communicator. In the dressing room, we would have Didier Drogba or Michael Ballack or Petr Cech – they may have been big voices but they would listen to Frank. He would have this calm demeanour and way of delivering a message that would empower you and I’m positive he will have the same effect on these Chelsea players, whether young or older.'

Ricardo Carvalho

'Frank had the respect of everyone in the dressing room. When he speaks he is the kind of person that you listen to and you respect so it is a good beginning. He has just started his coaching for one year and he started well, and I think it could be very important for him.

'In this job I hope that he can do well and I think he already learned during one year in the Championship. Of course, the Premier League is tough and he is in a big club but the structure is very good and I hope with everyone working together it can help him to be a success. He knows the club.'

Didier Drogba

'When you told me this was the direction he [Lampard] wants to take, I knew he would do great because he’s got all the qualities required. He listens, he works hard and he’s a winner.'

Claude Makelele

'I'm sure he wants to give everything for Chelsea. So, of course, I'm happy for this idea of the club to bring back a legend. He's ready. He knows what is needed to bring success to the club, Frank is someone who is very professional, he focuses on details, focuses about the love he gives for Chelsea. I'm sure he will be a great manager for Chelsea.

'Always Chelsea will be there, last season Chelsea were fighting in the Premier League and won the Europa League. The opportunity will come soon with the new project. I'm sure Chelsea will be able to give a lot of happiness to the fans.'

Vincent Kompany

'Not only is Frank a great guy but he’s someone who I learned so much from at a stage in my career. He was an incredible professional at Manchester City and he stepped up the level for everyone else. He’s up there with the most intelligent players so it’s a natural match with Chelsea.'

Carlo Cudicini

'I know Frank, I played with Frank. I think that, for the club, it would be fantastic. He has just started his career, but in football you can’t really plan much. Sometimes, a chance comes along and if you have the chance, you have to take it.

'Obviously, for the club, he was such an important player and potentially as a coach he can be too. I think he has all the ability to become a great coach, but he has just started. Everyone needs time, not just him, everyone needs time to put his philosophy in the team. In football, time is a crucial thing.'
