The head coach highlighted what it means to play for Chelsea and laid out his ideology for the coming season, with Caballero and his team-mates excited to get to work.

The week in Dublin has been a success so far, with Lampard and his coaching staff making a positive impression on the squad. However this is no surprise to Caballero, who stated he always saw Lampard moving into coaching after spending a year with our all-time leading goalscorer at Manchester City.

‘I played with Frank for a season at Man City and even then you could see that he had those leadership skills in his character,’ Willy said.

‘During my time at City, I often spoke with Pablo Zabaleta and we would say that English teams needed big players who have won a lot of things in their careers to become coaches here. So I think it’s fantastic that Lampard is now our head coach, it’s fantastic for him and also for Chelsea.

‘It’s been superb with Frank so far. The way he spoke to us on the first day was amazing and he’s been great so far.

‘He told us how he wants us to play, his ideas, how he wants us to train and how much work we must put in to be successful. He explained what it means to play for Chelsea and we are all excited to work under him.

‘He played at this club for a long time and won many trophies here, and he wants the same for us as players and for him as the head coach. We have to be ready to work hard, he’s told us that, and that we have a lot of talent in the squad. It’s an exciting time to be at the club.’

Caballero has been working hard in Ireland with Henrique Hilario, who was confirmed as Lampard’s goalkeeper coach, along with Jamie Cumming and Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined up with the squad earlier this week.

With the goalkeepers often training away from the rest of the players, the Argentinian explained how all the shot-stoppers have created a strong bond and why it was important for him to ‘recharge the batteries’ before getting back down to work this summer.

‘It’s been great working alongside Hilario and we’ve been training really hard,’ added Caballero. ‘We have three goalkeepers here, myself, Kepa and Jamie [Cumming] and we work on specific-goalkeeper drills, while the rest of the players work with the other coaches.

‘We have a good bond and we are all enjoying the sessions so far. It is a lot of hard work with double sessions every day, but very enjoyable and spirits are high.

‘I kept working even when I was on holiday, I would try to arrange a few days off to go into the gym or get out running. It’s so difficult to train on your own as a goalkeeper, but it’s mainly about staying in shape ready for the return of pre-season, which is what I did.

‘It was a long season because of the Europa League final, so after that I went back home to Argentina and spent some time with the family. As a foreign player it’s important to get back home when you can and that was nice, to recharge the batteries before getting back down to work again. Now we have been here in Ireland for a week or so now and we are all enjoying it and working hard.’
